| Roof void, home to starlings... But not for much longer, we hope! |
We tried to buy a pair of long-handled shears in Tenterden [that was our excuse for going], without success, but had a very nice breakfast at Buzzy Bees; they sure know how to scramble their eggs - yum!
I finished clearing the fallen branches of the willow, and all the surrounding brambles, and David took all the cuttings to the bonfire area, so that was a great start to the day. We'd just finished when Tony the fireplace guy from West Malling showed up; he seemed much more believable than the other chap who came, and said we didn't want any more than a 5kW stove...
He's going to sent us estimates for a hearth in two sizes, stove, and lining the flue, and warned that as it's the run up to Christmas, they are at their busy time. I would love to think that we could be in the house for Christmas...
I would also love to win the Lottery [then I'd have light switches wherever I want them
I suspect the odds are about the same, so given the choice I would choose 'huge house-fixing-up-fund"!
Who knows, I might meet a unicorn tomorrow?
Dave came to measure up the windows, and changed the lock on the front door, but the mechanism is on the point of becoming irredeemably broken, so that's another thing to add to our list of costs.
As are pairs of hinges for two of the windows.
Both David and I forgot to mention the broken pane upstairs, but that's not quite so urgent, I don't think?
Rain stopped play for me [and I couldn't face starting to cut pipes in the gloom]; too wet even to pull up nettles in the woodland, so I ended up reading/napping in the car. I think I must have needed it; I wouldn't have slept through rain on metal otherwise, I don't think.
David was an absolute trooper, and cleared all the nests and insulation out from the roof void; it will be much less awful for Steve to crawl about in the confined space now, but wasn't lovely for D - still, he's clean now and enjoying a much-earned beer.
